"What’s the Diagnosis?" is a unique, case-based learning experience designed for clinicians who enjoy solving complex diagnostic puzzles in an interactive, collegial environment. This six-part monthly series will be led by Dr. Robert E. Marx, internationally renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon and author of several authoritative clinical pathology texts and courses.
Each month, participants will receive a clinical case packet one week prior to the scheduled live Zoom session. This packet will include a high-resolution clinical photograph, relevant patient history, and any pertinent diagnostic data—setting the stage for critical analysis and collaborative thinking.
During each 60-minute live Zoom conference, Dr. Robert E. Marx will guide participants through three real-world clinical cases using an informal, Socratic-style format. The sessions are intentionally designed to encourage active participation, with attendees invited to offer differential diagnoses, ask questions, share clinical experiences, and explore treatment strategies. Once a consensus diagnosis is reached, evidence-based treatment options will be discussed in the same engaging manner.
Participants will also have the opportunity to submit their own "Mystery Diagnosis" cases for review by Dr. Robert E. Marx and the group—fostering peer-to-peer learning and enriching the diversity of case material.
This program is not a lecture—it’s a live, interactive diagnostic forum where clinicians sharpen their skills, share insights, and learn from each other in a collegial, pressure-free setting. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your diagnostic acumen or simply enjoy clinical case problem-solving, "Zooming In" offers a dynamic and rewarding educational experience.
— we’re delivering bold, outside-the-box thinking & raising the bar with next-level education.
Spot the Subtle Clues: Hone their clinical instincts by recognizing key historical details and exam findings that often lead to the correct diagnosis.
Think Like a Detective: Strengthen critical reasoning to select the right imaging, labs, and diagnostic tools—at the right time.
Build a Smarter Differential: Master practical techniques to create meaningful differential diagnoses and rule-outs in real time.
Go From Diagnosis to Action: Explore evidence-based treatment strategies for each diagnosis, with insights from real-world cases and group discussion.
Despite advancements in diagnostic imaging and laboratory testing, many oral and maxillofacial surgeons continue to face diagnostic uncertainty when presented with complex or atypical cases. Traditional CME formats often lack real-time interaction, peer engagement, and direct application to practice. Learners have expressed a desire for more dynamic, problem-solving–oriented education—one that sharpens diagnostic thinking, builds confidence in managing rare or ambiguous conditions, and promotes collegial discussion.
Season 4 of Hot Topics in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was developed to directly address this gap. Through live case-based discussion, critical thinking prompts, and active problem solving led by Dr. Robert E. Marx, this series offers an opportunity for participants to build diagnostic accuracy, explore evidence-based treatments, and contribute their own challenging cases for review. This learning format is especially effective for enhancing clinical reasoning and bridging the gap between textbook knowledge and real-world practice.
This CE activity is developed for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and advanced practicing dentist.
